About Next Steps
Fred Friedman co-founded Next Steps, NFP in 2005 to support action on mental illnesses in Illinois. The group works to involve ordinary people in decisions by government and nonprofit agencies. Next Steps believes that it’s not only possible for people with mental illnesses to make a contribution, it’s absolutely necessary.
Next Steps works to ensure the Illinois mental health system includes the community-based services that help people help themselves and achieve recovery from mental illnesses. The group meets with policymakers and other community leaders to solve problems in the mental health system.
Contributions to the 501(c)3 group are tax deductible. Partners include Mental Health Summit, as well as local chapters of National Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health America.
